2013 LLV Road wrap-up
2013– Live Love Velo’s inaugural year– kicked off with the start of the road season in early March, at the Grant’s Tomb Criterium in New York City. The air was crisp, and they were still patches of snow on the ground, as Kim, Diane, Christina and Silvana got their first taste of crit racing. The team competed in various criterium series throughout the season, including Bethel, Central Park and a strong presence at our local Kreb Friday night series in Riverhead.
Spring presented some longer road racing challenges, and Jenn, Robin, Amy, Diane, Ellen, Kyra, Tori, Silvana, Christina, Alison, Andrea and Kim tested their endurance in races including the Tour of the Battenkill, Quabbin, Hunter Spring Classic and the inaugural Woodstock Women’s Classic. Christina and Petra demonstrated their individual speed in time trials and hill climb events.
Into summer, and Amy and Diane raced in the 2 day Giro del Cielo in New Jersey. Amy’s consistent racing earned her 6th place in the final general classification. More hilly road races were contested, including the Tour of the Hilltowns in Massachusetts and Tour of the Catskills, and the Mengoni Grand Prix. Petra took home a pineapple for finishing 3rd in the Pineapple Road race in Hawaii.
Then it was back to Hunter for Amy, where she conquered the hills and finished in first place in Cat 4 of the Hunter Mountain Fall Classic.
The 2013 road season saw Live Love Velo team members line up for 129 starts, in 39 races in 5 states. One 1st place, five 2nd place, seven 3rd place finishes and numerous top 10 placings were achieved. For those in the team new to road racing a lot of valuable experience was gained, and we have formed a solid platform to race as a team in 2014.
Now that the leaves are changing colour, our racing season is not over. Live Love Velo riders still have more mountain biking on their schedule, and the cyclocross season is getting into full swing. We’ve already had a few podium finishes to report, so stay tuned for the next racing update.
