Meet our Coaches
We couldn’t be happier to introduce you to our coaches, Sinead Fitzgibbon and Jennifer Gatz. Not only are they exceptional coaches with the highest of qualifications and downright artful in terms of how they manage to get the most out of their athletes, but they are extraordinarily fun too! Sinead and Jennifer are delighted to be working with Live Love Velo, and to be part of establishing this incredible women’s cycling team right here on LI. Sinéad Fitzgibbon, P.T., M.S., M.S.P.T., M.A.C.P.(UK), O.C.S
Sinéad Fitzgibbon is a graduate from the University of Ulster with a B.Sc in physiotherapy in 1991, and University of London with M.Sc. in manual therapy in 1994. She was a competitive swimmer and coach while living in Ireland, and upon emigrating to the USA In 1996, began her foray into triathlon. She competed at a local, national and international level, representing the USA in Perth in 1999 and achieved “All-American” status on two occasions. Sidelined by a knee injury and subsequent surgery, she made a transition into the road, mountain bike and cyclocross scene in 2005, and raced all three diciplines with a Cat 2 license throughout the USA, Canada and as far as Chongming Island, China. She is a level 2 USA cycling coach, and a professional bike-fitter certified through Retül, Trek and F.I.S.T. and while busy en route to a Ph.D. in orthopedics and sports physical therapy, still enjoys ripping it up in the dirt with other women.
Jennifer Gatz, M.A., M.A.T.
Jen has over 15 years of coaching experience with multisport athletes. She received her B.Sc. in Cardiac Rehabilitation/Exercise Science in 1993 from Ithaca College. A Masters in Exercise Physiology from Adelphi University in 1999 and a Masters in Biology with a teaching certificate from Stony Brook University in 2004. Jen is currently working on her PhD in Physiology and Science Education at Stony Brook University. An accomplished athlete, Jen is a two time Boston Marathon qualifier, a nationally ranked triathlete competing in all distances with 3 Ironman finishes, an avid mountain biker and trail runner. She holds certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine as an Exercise Specialist and is a USCF Certified Cycling Coach. Jen will bring her sports physiology and coaching expertise to the team as probem solver/prevention specialist in the form of proper fueling during training rides and racing, maximizing recovery, physical data evaluation: looking forweaknesses/strengths in fitness, power, lactate threshold, body composition, base nutrition, and training related issues.
